If that Lync plug-in/extension was created prior to December 2018, and intended for Mac as a Safari extension, then it is no longer compatible with Safari 13.0.5, because Apple changed the extension architecture, and has moved away from other plug-ins. To install “Microsoft Lync for MAC” on your MAC Computer First download the disk image (.dmg) installation from:

Once you download this disk image, disk image should automatically mount and window should pop-up with option to install this (depending on the MAC OS version and your security settings). If it doesn’t automaticly open – use Finder, doubleclick the file to mount it and then run the installation. The end result should be that you now have the Microsoft Lync on your Desktop.

There is a known issue with Lync clients with new Apple OS called Yosemite. The Lync for Microsoft Office 2011 (with Office 365 or Lync on premise) no longer will sign in, the potential fix is listed below.

Primary Symptom: when you attempt to log into Lync, it appears to sign you in just fine, but after briefly displaying your Lync contacts, it immediately signs you out and gives you a generic error message that either the server is unavailable or some unknown error has occured.

Recommended Resolution:

  • Make sure you have all Mac for Office updates and are running the very latest updates
  • Go into Settings, Language & Region
  • Change the language from “English-Primary” (or whatever the language is set to) to “English-US”
  • Reboot
  • Go back into Settings, Language & Region
  • Change the language back to “English-Primary”
  • Reboot
  • Open Lync and you should be able to log in just fine this time
